Hello, my lovelies!
I know it has been rather quiet on Study.Read.Write. recently. After the aborted A-Z Challenge, I had to focus on my studies and getting my other blog, Literati Girl, off the ground.
If we were having coffee today, I’d tell you that I am happy to say I have handed in all my assignments, and no it’s just my M.A. thesis between me and graduation!
If we were having coffee today, I’d tell you that the past month has been pretty up and down for me. On May 10 I saw David Duchovny live in concert! That was amazing. He’s a really good singer and was pretty confident singing live.
Unfortunately, my dad has been in and out of hospital all month. First, he contracted pneumonia and blood poisoning at the same time, then his diabetes caught up with him and he developed Charcot foot with the result that the bones in his foot got so weak he fractured several of them just by walking.
If we were having coffee today, I’d tell you that I am quite happy not having to deal with several people at my university anymore. In early May I contacted my professor on my final course, asking him to provide a resource that was missing (link was unavailable) and some clarification on an assignment… and even though he has been in touch several times in the meantime, he has yet to send an alternative link and an answer. Meanwhile, I’d gone over my deadline. I have now handed everything in with the resources I had available.
My thesis topic is “How an author’s culture influences their work: a comparative study of cultural variations in Australian Literature.” That now leaves me with 4 months time, 12 Australian novels to read and 100+ academic texts.

And I thought a big research project is the perfect opportunity to buy new stationery.

I have no idea where the Cornell Method of Notetaking was all my life. But in my new Leuchtturm1917 notebooks, I will be summarising one chapter/article per page so I can colour-code everything. Yes, I’m organised.
If we were having coffee today, I would tell you that I am seriously looking into PhD opportunities now, as my professor told me to save some of my research for my PhD 😀 Apparently I am too organised, hehehe, and my topic has not yet been explored (from what I can tell), and the first thing my professor said was “That’d be an awesome doctoral thesis.” So yes, I’m researching where I could take this. All I know is, if I do this, it won’t be by distance learning.
If we were having coffee today, I would tell you that I am planning to make some changes to Study.Read.Write. In future I will be focusing more on the study and writing part (although there will still be reviews), while my other blogs will focus on the reading part.
And if we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am feeling better, and ready to take up my DDP Yoga and clean eating again. I will also be joining the gym this month. This year so far has been my darkest and my most hectic – not a good combination. But I do have my oldest friend as the support I need. She just lost 23kg this year so far and I know I can do that as well. I just need to get my butt in gear.
Right, I think you’re all up-to-date now. Sorry for the rambling post. I’m sure that the other Weekend Coffee Sharers want to see you too, if you want to chat some more. Thank you for having coffee with me today! Same time, next week?

It’s good to see you here again. Wow! Ph.D? Dr. Kaufmann!

I know, right? 😂 we’ll see. MA first. It’ll probably all end in tears when I finally look into funding further studies.

I hope it ends any way that you want it to end. You never know about the finances. It just might happen if you really want to go for it.

Hi Conny,
Your research project sounds great. If you want to bounce around some ideas and chat, I’d be happy too. I majored in Australian history and literature and did honours in history, writing my thesis on Australian art and literature and the coming of modernism.

Good luck with it all!
