The Friday 56 is a blog hop by Freda’s Voice and the rules are simple:
- Turn to the nearest book.
- Open it on page 56.
- Post a sentence or two.

- Go crazy on the linky.
“Sammy Davis, Junior, Junior converted her attention from masticating her tail to trying to lick clean the hero’s spectacles, which I will tell you were in need of cleaning. I write that she was trying because the hero was not being sociable.”
– Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
I’ve heard a lot about this book, but haven’t picked it up myself. I heard it’s very emotional.

It is emotional, but it is also very funny. The quote was by Alexei who is Ukrainian and acts as a translator. While what he says is technically correct, he keeps using the wrong words for the context. He’d says “dispersing currency” instead of “spending money “. As someone who learned English as a second language, I can totally understand. It takes about 20 pages to really get your head around but after that it’s a great read!

Ah, I spent some time in Korea and one of the most popular English mistakes was “can you borrow me your pen” instead of “lend me your pen.” English is a hard language to learn, so I applaud you.

Interesting 56! Slightly comical.
I have a book by him, Animals. I still need to read it though.
Happy weekend!
