Today, Cape Coast is the capital of Ghana’s Central Region, located on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea. It is a well-known fishing port and the city is home to some of Ghana’s best schools as well as the University of Cape Coast. The heritage of the various colonising powers, which laid claim to the town for centuries, can be seen everywhere.

Cape Coast Castle is one of the city’s main attractions and looking at the white-washed building, you’d never guess what a tragic role it played in the lives of thousands – if not millions – of people.

Swimming in Budapest

Hungary’s capital Budapest is one of those grand old cities oozing with bygone opulence and vibrating with life.

There’s the Váci Utca, possibly Budapest’s most famous pedestrian street, with its fancy shops and restaurants right next to old-fashioned market halls and street vendors. The covered markets offer everything you could possibly need and they’re a great source for authentic Hungarian food – I just hope you like paprika, because you can buy it in any conceivable form.

A Town Called Alice (Springs)

Let’s face it folks. Alice Springs, smack in the middle of Australia’s vast Outback, is a long way from anywhere.

Driving there  takes at least 18 hours from Adelaide or Darwin, and that’s not counting breaks and road conditions. It’s all just one straight road, the Stuart Highway or “The Track.”

Auckland – The City of Sails

Auckland is an awesome place! And I am not just saying that because New Zealand’s biggest city used to be my home when I was 16.

The city-wide joke is that Auckland has “four seasons in a day.” And that is often true. So it’s good news that there is something to do for every weather.
