Real life story: My two grandfathers were in hospital in 1933. Heinz was 8, Helmut was 6 and one of them had a broken arm, the other a broken leg.

This was in Germany, and Hitler had only just come to power. Note the year, this was way before the war!

There were a few soldiers also recuperating at the local hospital. For some reason, Hitler visited that particular hospital. And the soldiers thought it’d be a nice touch to have these two small boys (8 and 6 years old, remember?) present a bunch of flowers to him.

So they did, not knowing just who that guy was.

In the mid 1970’s, my parents met. When they introduced their fathers to each other, they both did a double-take, pointed at each other and said “I know you from somewhere.”
